HILL MIDDLE SCHOOL DESIGNATED AGAIN AS ILLINOIS HORIZON SCHOOL TO WATCH
Reported by john_kelsey@ipsd.org on 2/16/12
The Association of Illinois Middle Schools is associated with a national organization called, Schools To Watch. The Schools-To-Watch network is a professional community dedicated to supporting and recognizing outstanding middle schools.
Thayer J Hill Middle School was originally designated as an Illinois Horizon School to watch in 2004 and again in 2008. The Illinois Horizon Schools: Schools to Watch Program affirms that exemplary schools are schools involved in an on-going journey of excellence. To this end, Illinois Horizon Schools: Schools to Watch, in coordination with the National Forum, has established a program of continuous evaluation for all schools designated as a School to Watch. In order to maintain status as a School to Watch at the end of three years, schools are re-evaluated including interviews and a site visit.
Thayer J Hill Middle School’s re-designation as a Illinois Horizon School-to-Watch, recognizes that Hill is a leader in the field of middle level education, and is a school for other middle schools to watch, visit, and learn from. The criteria for evaluation are academic excellence, age-appropriate teaching and programs, the ability for students of all backgrounds to learn, and support from the local community.
